Dadasaheb Phalke Award-Winning Actor Soumitra Chatterjee Tests Positive For COVID-19; Admitted To A Hospital In Kolkata-Reports

Veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee has tested positive for COVID-19 after being unwell for a few days, according to a report. The report also stated that the Dadasaheb Phalke Award-winning actor is admitted to a hospital in Kolkata. The veteran actor is best known for his collaborations with Oscar-winning film director Satyajit Ray. Chatterjee has worked with Satyajit Ray in fourteen films, and is known for his stellar performances and acting skills. He has also won 7 Filmfare awards, a National Award for Best Actor for the film Podokkhep and is a Padma Bhushan award holder, apart from the other numerous awards he has received.  

On Twitter, Press Trust of India reported that veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee has tested positive for Novel Coronavirus, as informed by health officials. Chatterjee’s daughter Poulomi Basu was then quoted to the news agency that the 85-year-old actor was unwell since the last three days with fever. She then continued to share that her father tested positive for the virus on Monday night. Sharing a health update on her father’s ill-health, Poulomi Basu said, “Baba (father) is stable now. He is fully conscious. He is under observation due to his advancing age.”

Soumitra Chatterjee’s daughter mentioned that he is stable and is fully conscious. She also mentioned that her father is under observation due to his advancing age. Reportedly, a spokesperson of the hospital also mentioned that Soumitra Chatterjee has been shifted to a cabin, in the hospital. While many fans and well-wishers continued to send love and good wishes to the veteran actor, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her concerns over the Chatterjee’s health. She tweeted, “Concerned to hear about the veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee testing positive for #COVID19. Praying for his speedy recovery and good health!”
